The 2018 version, 2019 version, and 2020 version of my “Retired Nomad Slow-Travel World Tour” were awesome, up until Covid-19…
Anyway, I started my fourth year of being a Retired Nomad welcoming in the New Year of 2021, self-quarantining and drinking while the neighborhood celebrated all around me in Merida, Mexico.
And I stayed put until going back to Virginia in mid-April to pet-sit for good friends while they went on an extended vacation and to get my vaccine shots.
I returned to my Airbnb rental house in Merida in June until early September where I returned to Virginia to… you guessed it, pet-sit for those same good friends and visit a few family members, go to my high school reunion, and bury my big sister.
On November 1, I returned to Mexico but this time to Playa del Carmen because I missed being close to the sea.
My new friend from Merida also moved to Playa del Carmen and an old high school friend came to visit over the holidays.
So the three of us celebrated the new year together with laughs, a good meal, and fireworks!
It was a great start to the New Year, I hope it continues…
